In addition to trial, mediation and binding arbitration experience, Ms. Meade has extensive experience in taking and defending depositions, including expert depositions, writing and defending motions for summary judgment (over 120), conducting all aspects of discovery and motion practice and preparing cases for trial from initiation though verdict. </p> <p>Ms. Meade has also authored and argued over two dozen appeals in the California Courts of Appeals and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, three of which are published opinions:</p> <ul> <li><i>Chase v. Blue Cross of California </i>(1996) 42 Cal.App.4th 1142</li> <li><i>Shin v. Park </i>(9th Cir. 2002) 313 F.3d 1138 </li> <li><i>Dible v. Haight Ashbury Free Clinics, Inc. </i>(2009) 170 Cal.App.4th 843</li> </ul> <p>Some of Ms. Meade s recent successes include: </p> <ul> <li>Summary judgment granted in our client s favor in a disability discrimination case where the issue was whether the employer engaged in the interactive process; Dismissal of an anti-SLAPP action against our corporate client, which was affirmed on appeal;</li> <li>Defense verdict in month-long binding arbitration trial where plaintiff-employee claimed that she was raped and sexually harassed by a management employee, sexually harassed and constructively terminated from her position;</li> <li>Obtained $800,000 settlement of plaintiff s gender and age employment discrimination case </li> </ul> <p>Ms. Meade for many years was an attorney with a well-known plaintiff law firm in Oakland, Gwilliam, Ivary, Chiosso, Cavalli and Brewer, where she represented plaintiffs in many types of cases including serious personal injury, medical malpractice, discrimination, harassment, retaliation and wrongful termination. Some of her successes include:</p> <ul> <li>a $2.1 million settlement for a brain injured child in a dangerous intersection claim against a public entity;</li> <li>a $1 million settlement for a professor denied tenure in a race and gender discrimination case against a California university. </li> <li>a $ 8 million settlement for a client who suffered quadriplegia in an industrial accident.</li> </ul> <p>Ms. Meade s background and experience representing plaintiffs allows her to provide clients with accurate insight into the relative strengths and weaknesses of plaintiff s claims and the defenses to be asserted and to better and more insightfully defend claims and lawsuits brought against those clients.</p> <p>Ms. Meade graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a B.A. degree in Political Science. She graduated from Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco in 1988 and was admitted to the California State Bar in the same year.
